Guide to Uploading and Downloading F6 and S6 Drive Parameters

Jake Wattenphul | August 28th, 2025

KEB VFDs deliver precise motor control through an extensive library of configurable parameters that allow you to optimize your application’s performance and efficiency. The ability to upload and download these drive parameters serves several critical purposes:

Troubleshooting: Quickly diagnose drive issues by comparing current settings to known-good configurations
Standardization: Deploy identical parameter sets across multiple drives for consistent performance
Backup & Recovery: Maintain secure copies of your optimized settings to prevent configuration loss

This guide walks you through the process of uploading and downloading F6 and S6 drive parameters using COMBIVIS 6, enabling you to efficiently backup configurations, troubleshoot drive issues, and standardize settings across multiple drives.

Managing KEB Drive Parameters with COMBIVIS 6

There are a few ways to do this using our COMBIVIS 6 automation software. KEB VFDs offer exceptional motor control with a deep repository of parameter options for fine-tuning your application to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

These saved parameter lists can be used as a backup file or to program a new or existing drive to the specific profiles you need. The upload and download procedures embedded in this blog are also available in our COMBIVIS 6 Tutorials playlist on our KEB America YouTube channel.

Before starting a KEB drive upload or download procedure, you need to connect a computer to a KEB device. For more detail, watch the tutorial video here: Connect a KEB Drive to COMBIVIS 6.

Steps to Connect to a KEB F6 or S6 Drive

Before beginning the upload or download process, establish communication between your drive and COMBIVIS 6 by connecting the USB-to-serial converter to the X4A port on the drive’s front panel and plugging the USB cable into your PC.

Steps to Upload KEB Drive Parameters

What Does it Mean to Perform an Upload?

Uploading KEB drive parameters means you take the parameters currently programmed on a VFD and using COMBIVIS 6 software installed on your connected computer, you upload the parameter list from the drive to your computer. You can then save the parameter list as a file on your computer in order to download it to another drive or to keep it as a backup file. Simply put, it’s saving the parameters on a VFD to a file on your computer.

Why Save a Parameter File?

You will want to upload VFD parameter files to a computer for the following reasons:

  • To program one or more drives
  • To send the file to KEB for troubleshooting
  • Save a base file for a program change
  • Use as a backup file in case unwanted changes are made

Watch the video below for a step-by-step guide to perform a parameter upload.

Steps to Download KEB Drive Parameters

What is a Parameter Download?

In the KEB ecosystem, a parameter download is downloading a parameter file on your computer to program a drive. In short, it’s saving a COMBIVIS 6 parameter list on your computer to program your KEB drive.

Why Download a Parameter File to a Drive?

You can program a KEB drive with a parameter file saved on a computer using COMBIVIS 6 software to change all parameters in a drive or just a few dozen. This file ensures the drive operates as the save file is designed.

Watch the video below for a step-by-step guide to perform a parameter download.
