Product Details

KEB’s dV/dt chokes do not skew the VFD’s motor model or negatively affect motor performance. They can be used with either PM or Induction Motors.

KEB dV/dt filters can be operated safely and effectively with high output frequencies from the drive – up to 16kHz carrier frequency.

Our dV/dt motor chokes have the secondary benefit of reducing EMI emissions (>250kHz range) from the VFD output.

When to Use dV/dt Filters

Voltage spikes and reflected waves can happen when a VFD is paired in certain scenarios that have long cable runs, high switching frequencies, and are in high-voltage systems. This can lead to potential breakdown and a shortened motor lifetime. Installing a dV/dt filter is ideal to lower voltage spikes and improve the performance and reliability of the system.

Output Filters: dV/dt vs. Sine Wave

dV/dt Filters

• Inductor system
• Reduces voltage rise time at the motor and the temperature
• Increases the motor's operating lifetime
• Protects motor insulation
• Placed directly at the output of the drive

Sine Wave Filters

• Inductor/capacitor combination
• Low pass filter used to provide a sine wave output to the motor
• Reduces motor winding heat
• Increased motor lifetime
• Installed close to the VFD

Advantages of Using dV/dt Motor Chokes

• Increased service life of motor windings
• Reduced current ripples and rotor losses in the motor
• Suitable for applications with long motor supply cables (>30m)
• Increased total inductance at output
• Optimized the voltage rise rate (dV/dt) of the IGBT
• Reduced the peak value of the current, and relieve the IGBTs in propulsion inverters
