An Engineer with an Idea

Our History

In 1972, Karl Ernst Brinkmann started KEB with six employees and the Combibox – a combination clutch/brake.

Over the years, the company added products, fine-tuned its solution-oriented approach, and expanded into new geographies to become a global provider of automation solutions.

Today, KEB Automation KG is headquartered in Barntrup, Germany. It now operates production sites in Germany, the U.S., China, and Japan, supported by 10 affiliates, 30 sales and service centers, and over 1,400 employees worldwide.

KEB America, Inc. is the leading provider of drive and automation technology for the North American market since 1982.

We employ over 150 people to deliver full design, assembly, and manufacturing at our 150,000 sq. ft. facility in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Our facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

We are a manufacturer of customized industrial automation products like electromagnetic clutches and brakes, integral gearmotors, VFDs, HMIs, and more.

KEB products are found in the most demanding applications around the world, including elevator, medical, packaging, theatre, and plastics.
