Economical and Efficient Braking with Innovative Power-On Technology

The COMBINORM provides an economical option for braking that can be configured in flange or shaft-mount configurations.

The brake consists of a stationary electromagnet. Also, an armature is riveted to a flat spring which is then riveted to a shaft hub. The hub is connected to the machine shaft with a keyed connection.

Here’s how the KEB COMBINORM brake works.

When electrical power is applied to an electromagnet coil a magnetic field is created. The magnetic force is strong enough to deflect the flat spring and pull the armature across a small air gap into the magnet face. The friction connection between the magnet and armature causes the rotating shaft to slow and stop.

When power is removed from the magnet, the flat spring pulls the armature across the air gap and away from the magnet face. With an air gap between the magnet and armature, the shaft is free to rotate without any residual drag.
